SAS International provide a range of metal ceiling solutions for the Paterson Cancer Research Centre, Manchester.
Following a devastating fire in 2017, construction of the new Paterson building at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester is now complete. The new building is one of the top cancer research centres in the world with successful partnership between three powerhouses of innovation, The Christie, Cancer Research UK and The University of Manchester.
SAS International worked closely with architects BDP to deliver a range of metal ceiling solutions that would enhance multiple areas of the building, including kitchen areas, write-up spaces and research labs. Upon entry to the building, SAS740 finished in Anthracite grey can be seen vertically mounted behind the reception desk, delivering a premium finish and immediate visual interest. SAS740 finished in Light Oak from the SAS WoodTones range can also be seen on multiple levels of the building above communal areas, introducing a natural warmth to the space.
Long stretches of SAS740 finished in Pure White follow the buildings natural profile, running perpendicular to the glass walls encouraging natural light into the space. Positioned directly above desk and collaboration areas, this system not only adds visual interest but with the addition of acoustic backing panels, it also provides excellent acoustic performance.
SAS330 was installed throughout the research labs of the building, allowing for seamless integration of grilles, lighting, and services. Being a lay-in metal ceiling tile system, SAS330 provides functionality with outstanding acoustic performance and offers complete design flexibility. The practical nature of its structure allows ease of construction and accessibility for maintenance, which is essential in clinical spaces.
The new building will host the largest collection of scientists, doctors, and nurses in Europe, with 300 scientists and 400 clinicians delivering clinical trials covering the full extent of the patient pathway, from prevention and novel treatments to living with and beyond cancer.
With more than 25,000 square metres across 10 storeys, the building is over twice the size of the previous centre, paving the way for experts to collaborate and input their findings to clinical trials on a much larger scale.
This project was completed in Q2 2023.
