SAS BESPOKE SHOPPING CENTRE SOLUTION
The Bentall Centre in Kingston-Upon-Thames, South West London, has a rejuvenated and future-proofed ceiling thanks to the intervention of the Special Projects team at SAS.
Architects Crane & Associates needed a clean, contemporary aesthetic for the refurbishment of existing malls and an entranceway. The SAS design team proposed a bespoke variant of its popular SAS200 ceiling system to fit the existing bay structure. This proved to be a cost-effective way of creating the impression of an entirely new ceiling while in fact retaining about 25% of the original.
The specification had originally called for a composite panel system. Main contractor Graham Construction, Northern Ireland, anticipating potential revisions to fire regulations, recommended that the design be future proofed. It was at this stage that the design team at SAS was approached to propose a solution.
Working to the architect’s overall design brief, the SAS Special Projects team designed and installed a variant of the SAS 200 suspended metal ceiling system.
There are no standard sizes in this system, enabling the design team to offer completely bespoke solutions for any interior. In this instance, the team included a special “double tile” design to reduce the time required to access services for routine maintenance.
The system is also available in a wide range of finishing colours and the Bentalls Centre features a satisfying contrasting grey / white colourway to accentuate the regular mosaic ceiling design.
