Architectural practice Nicholas Grimshaw & Partners Ltd has been developing a new satellite pier for client BAA at Heathrow Airport. Terminal Two Concourse B is the first phase of Heathrow’s Eastern Apron redevelopment and follows the ‘toast rack’ layout established at Terminal Five. SAS International have supplied over 12,000 square meters of SAS600 bull nosed metal ceiling panels for the project.
SAS600 is an acoustic raft that is directly suspended from a flat structural soffit or in coffers allowing free air movement to the structural slab for natural thermal mass cooling. Manufactured from metal the durable finish provides a cost-effective solution while reducing life cycle costs for Heathrow Airport.
Collaboration with the subcontractor, architect and client was crucial for the T2B project to fully realise solutions that provide for a modern transport hub. High quality internal finishes were employed throughout Heathrow T2B to great effect.
