Gatwick is the second biggest airport in the UK, located 25 miles outside of central London. The South Terminal welcomes 17.8 million passengers per year. With regular expansion in mind, the South terminal introduced a new £45 million state-of-the-art security area as well as extending departure lounges.
SAS International supplied 5,000m² of SAS600 metal ceilings for the new security area and departure lounges. SAS600 is an acoustic raft that is directly suspended from a flat structural soffit or in coffers. This metal ceilings system was specified for the airport as it allows for free air movement to the structural slab for natural thermal mass cooling, in addition to being an inherently hard-wearing surface, making it a hygienic and a low-maintenance option ideal for the transportation sector.
The life-span of SAS International’s metal ceilings is in excess of 25 years, with only very basic maintenance. This provides the durability and longevity that many clients are increasingly demanding. This ceiling installation not only answered demands for aesthetics but also provides essential acoustic control within Gatwick’s busy environment.
