Unveiled last September, Glasgow’s state of the art City Campus is one of the largest specialist colleges in Europe. The facility provides over 500 classrooms including arts and media studios, a fully-equipped aircraft training cabin and 16 professional kitchens.
SAS International provided the new build project with specialist acoustic and technical design expertise to achieve the occupier needs in each space. A variety of SAS systems were then specified to meet these detailed performance requirements.
The vast, triple-height public reception area provided significant acoustic challenges due to the sheer amount of acoustically reflective materials used within this space. To overcome these challenges, SAS manufactured specialist acoustic wall panelling, systematically reducing unwanted noise from a cacophonous din to peaceful calm. The space required extensive proposal drawings and sophisticated acoustic modelling to ensure both acoustic performance and aesthetic demands were met.
Specifying SAS150 overcame a further niche demand in the training kitchens. The clip-in system is ideal for areas requiring a strict cleaning regime as tiles can be wiped vigorously without dislodging. Further protection from harmful bacteria build-up has been provided through SAS’ specialist anti-microbial polyester powder coatings.
The private office spaces add visual appeal through an SAS750 Tubeline feature ceiling with integrated ‘Tubelight’ lighting. New in 2016, the integrated lighting profile is installed in exactly the same way as the standard system. Simple to install and connect, Tubelight offers a consistent aesthetic and avoids concerns surrounding third party lighting integration.
