INTEGRATION LIGHTS THE WAY
It was the seamless integration of SAS linear lighting with its accessible metal ceiling system that appealed to the architects working on the refurbishment of office space in 12 Arthur Street, Central London.
The SAS330i LED luminaires are unique in that they are installed before the ceiling tiles and provide the mechanical support for the tiles, saving on having to provide additional material. As SAS330i lights are fundamentally part of the ceiling structure, perfect integration is guaranteed and installation simplified.
Traditionally (before the SAS330i lights) to provide a similar linear lit aesthetic albeit not as clean, multiple runs of extra material would have been specified, as separate tile support profiles either side of each light run.
This project demanded a high-quality CAT A fit-out. The architects were looking for a clean contemporary aesthetic that would provide a neutral background for incoming tenants.
While aesthetics are important, the lighting environment was also a priority. The lighting team at SAS worked with the architects to compile a lighting design to meet both CIBSE and BCO guidelines on optimum lighting for offices.
Electrically, SAS’s innovative Lighting Design Team understood the client’s objectives and provided standard and tailored performance specifications to suit each application. Early collaborations with both Engineering Consultants and Architects complimented perfectly the client’s aspirations of a coherent ceiling layout with integrated lighting and other services.
In this installation, the SAS330i luminaires were also provided as a pendant and surface mounted fitting. This option was used for one floor of the building where a feature ceiling exposed; soffit, lights and structural beams. Architectural brief wanted to ensure that, should tenants decide to retrofit a suspended ceiling, each light fitting can be reused and not thrown away as waste. All SAS330i lights are backwards compatible and could be simply lowered and used within the new ceiling. SAS330i’s unique detachable side surfaces are simply unclipped by hand to convert.
The SAS330i system is popular with designers because of its design flexibility. Ceiling tiles and lights are manufactured together in the same factory; tiles can be manufactured in 1mm increments up to 3m in length and light modules are available from 500mm to 4m as standard with modules manufactured to order in 50mm increments.
