To meet net zero carbon goals and reduce impact on the environment, the entire construction sector supply chain needs to significantly lower emissions and ultimately become fully circular. With this shared objective in mind, SAS International is launching Horizon, a product programme offering customers a fast-growing, low embodied carbon range of products.
Low embodied carbon metal
Metal has been a crucial material to SAS International’s business. Metal always had high embodied carbon, but it possesses outstanding circularity properties. Metal is infinitely recyclable and has proven to be strong and durable for many decades or even centuries. Metal is architecturally flexible, does not off-gas or disintegrate. Because of these decisive advantages, combined with recent developments in steel production using renewable energy-powered electric arc furnaces, SAS remains committed to metal as the right material for its ceilings and architectural metalwork. Metal is at the heart of our impressive legacy of the past fifty years. We believe that legacy shapes and inspires our future.
Key customer benefits of Horizon
Products from the Horizon line will lower the embodied carbon of customer projects by as much as 60% compared to regular steel. It means they get all the advantages of steel, but with the same embodied carbon as mineral fibre, wood wool and felt. Horizon products mean:
The SAS sustainability commitment – Cradle to Cradle Certified
The SAS Horizon programme is part of our broader sustainability efforts to lower our operational emissions as well as the embodied carbon of our products. Day by day, we are working tirelessly to reduce our impact on the environment. We reduce our carbon emissions as well as our use of water and precious resources through improved product design and machinery, on-site energy generation and low impact packaging materials. We use Cradle to Cradle Certified as an independent third-party framework to address water, soil, air, circularity, material health and human rights. Our efforts have resulted in Cradle to Cradle certified Bronze Version 4 accreditation. The Horizon product programme is an important part of our journey to go from there to Cradle to Cradle Silver and beyond, as we move towards our 2040 net zero carbon goals, milestone by milestone.
A New Direction
The SAS Horizon range will grow until ultimately, it will be our standard range – globally. Horizon reflects our pledge to be carbon neutral by 2040. That target may seem distant, but it’s one we have firmly in our sights. Committed to our mission, it’s a goal SAS International is determined to realise. Join us on the journey to get there.
