Reimagining a Historic Landmark for Modern Learning
After a comprehensive renovation, the former Royal Morgue Institute in Berlin-Mitt built in 1886 has been transformed into modern academic space for the institute of Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.
The project was led by Maedebach & Redeleit Architekten, who set out to repurpose the long-unused lecture hall, the central element of the building, into a barrier-free space for the university. This was executed by providing access to the second floor lecture hall via an elevator as well as rotating the seating 180° to create easy entry.

Manufacturing Precision Meets Architectural Ambition
Within the new and improved lecture hall, our SAS710 linear ceiling was specified to perfectly complement the inclusive design of the seating area. The rolled steel panels extend seamlessly from wall to wall, guiding natural light across the room and creating visual continuity. This promotes a cohesion across the room enhancing its functional contemporary design.
The smooth pure white finish offers a clean bright feel. It opens up the space and creates a positive and uplifting atmosphere, perfect for nurturing a calm and focused environment. Working in harmony with the natural light reinforces the architectural vision of a bright, barrier-free space that cultivates a positive learning environment.
