Beginning in 1966, The Royal Institute of British Architects’ (RIBA) National Awards are given to the best new buildings throughout the UK in recognition of their significant contributions to architecture. SAS International are delighted to have been involved with many of the RIBA National Award 2021 project winners.
The English National Ballet
SAS collaborated with Glenn Howells Architects and Ballymore Construction Services to install SAS150 suspended ceilings and SAS600 acoustic rafts. This public-facing faculty provides the highest quality in classical ballet to the widest possible audience. The English National Ballet is a focal point for the London City Island development.
Cambridge Central Mosque
Selected by architect, Marks Barfield, SAS International’s Special Projects supplied curved acoustic wall panelling to line the now widely recognised roof-lights above the wooden beams and columns. SAS’s architectural metalwork was the natural choice to meet the building’s material durability? intent.
The Ray, Farringdon
The Ray is a bright and fresh contemporary office building that fits effortlessly into it’s urban context, the building coming to life with it’s playful use of brickwork and expressive signage. SAS installed SAS330 ceilings for Floor 2 of the LinkedIn office space which currently occupies about 4,487sqm of offices from floors one to eight.
The Standard
A landmark building in London’s King’s Cross regeneration area – the Camden Town Hall Annexe on Euston Road – was redeveloped as a 250-bedroom boutique hotel operated by luxury US chain, Standard International. SAS worked with McClaren to refurbish the former Camden Council Offices, installing SAS330 into the building. A refurbishment was chosen as a more sustainable option as well as showing recognition of familiarity toward the existing building.
Tiger Way
Tiger Way is an education-led mixed-use scheme, delivering a high-quality new primary school and nursery co-located with equally high-grade residential apartments. SAS International installed two types of product into this space – an anti-bacterial SAS150 tile was used in kitchen areas, and a SAS330 plank ceiling was used in corridors.
Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
A tour de force in stadium design, the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium delivers an unparalleled experience for the users, the external cladding expertly disguising the numerous requirements such as fire access and ventilation ducts. SAS International worked on this new build with contractor Mace, installing striking SAS740 linear aluminium into the space.
Zayed Centre
Located on Guildford Street, the Zayed Centre for Research into Rare Disease in Children sits in the heart of a conservation area. The building is functionally split between the office and research wing. Each space offers a light and airy atmosphere, and comprise of various materials such as timber, concrete, glass and stone. Adding steel to the material palette, clip-in SAS150 ceilings and SAS600 acoustic rafts were installed to create the ideal acoustic setting for concentration and learning. The technical team working closely with contractor Skanska UK to deliver a complex brief.
Bath School of Art & Design
This former furniture-making factory for Hermann Miller has been transformed into a school of art and design, repurposed and upgraded to meet 21st century environmental standards. SAS500 rafts were installed for this project. The external cladding of the building was refurbished, as well as new open mezzanine added to the internal perimeter of the building.
Brighton College
Combining sports and science spaces in a unique fashion, this new build merges laboratories, a greenhouse, a gym, and swimming pool. SAS worked with McClaren on this bold and ambitious project to install SAS130 lay-in ceilings for sound absorption and service access.
