Located within London’s financial district, 40 Leadenhall Street is home to a globally renowned insurance company, offering a well-presented, contemporary workspace that supports a calm and efficient working environment. SAS International supplied SAS330, a versatile metal ceiling system selected for its ability to operate beyond a standard lay-on application. Its design allows for both traditional grid installation and the creation of standalone raft ceilings, giving greater flexibility in how space is defined.
Throughout the office, SAS330 is used in raft form with TCA1182 and TCA0862 floating trims. All tiles were supplied in RAL 9010 (Pure White), which establishes a consistent, calm and softly illuminated finish throughout the space. Moreover, the rafts allowed linear third-party lighting to be installed between them, running parallel with the desks below, supporting a clear and structured layout.
The tiles are predominantly specified with the standard D1522 perforation, which provides a balanced level of acoustic absorption while maintaining a clean and uniform appearance across large ceiling areas. This consistency is particularly important in open-plan environments, where large uninterrupted ceiling areas require controlled acoustics without introducing additional ceiling elements.
Running through the centre of the office, our A/Maze Leaf Small perforation has been introduced as a deliberate guiding element, defining a subtle corridor within the open-plan layout. The mesh-like perforation also breaks up the repetition of the standard tile format. Its larger perforation pattern contrasts with the surrounding tiles, introducing variation within the ceiling and making the central line more visually distinct.
Easy access is paramount in an office environment and SAS330’s lay-on tiles facilitate this. Each tile can individually be lifted and tilted to access any section of the ceiling void needed.
The result is a workspace that feels both structured and intuitive, where thoughtful ceiling design plays a central role in guiding movement and promoting a positive work experience.
