The Friary Shopping Centre is a three-level retail development with a dedicated food court and more than 40 retailers. SAS Project Management designed, manufactured and installed an aluminium System 710 linear slat ceiling for two levels of the shopping centre.

SAS International’s connection with Westfield Stratford City inspired the design of the ceiling. System 710 is constructed in a way that means each slat lines up neatly with the next, forming a perfect row and resulting in clean and simple architectural lines.

Design co-ordination was provided by SAS Project Management, for both the lighting manufacturer and Westfield. The slatted system was installed in bays surrounded by plasterboard ceilings, and the installation was overseen by SAS to ensure the metal ceiling and plasterboard was aligned correctly. By providing design assistance to the lighting manufacturer, SAS ensured that lights could be installed in lieu of slats.

The work had to be carefully planned in phases and carried out at night to ensure the shopping centre could remain open during its normal business hours.
