SAS600 rafts were chosen for the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) development.

MIST is the world’s first graduate-level university dedicated to providing solutions to issues of sustainability. The institute is situated in Masdar City, a development that aims to be one of the world’s most sustainable, powered by renewable energy and providing students with a unique way to live and learn in a “living laboratory” environment.

SAS600 rafts were fitted with high performance acoustic inserts to allow front and rear panel absorption in the open laboratory areas. The rafts were suspended directly from lipped channel which was installed directly from the soffit. Lipped channel was chosen as the preferred choice of suspension as it limited the amount of material installed and this was a major factor for MIST’s sustainability focus.

Metal offers a hard-wearing surface, making metal ceiling systems both hygienic and a low-maintenance option over the course of their life-span; this is in excess of 25 years with only basic maintenance.

A variable ceiling layout required the full support of the local SAS International team in Dubai to work with both the Foster & Partners and Future Décor to minimise on-site installation issues.
