At Block D within Manchester’s Deansgate Square development, an art deco-inspired interior brings warmth and character to contemporary residential architecture. Situated on Owen Street, the project combines architecture by Collingridge & Smith Architects and SimpsonHaugh & Partners LLP with interiors by Lister+Lister.
Developed by Renaker Build Ltd and completed in 2021, the building balances bespoke finishes with the practical demands of shared residential spaces. SAS International’s Sun Gold ceiling treatment carries that approach overhead, introducing a distinctive metallic finish while addressing acoustic comfort and access to building services.
Bespoke finish, integrated performance
The ceiling brief called for more than a decorative feature. It needed to complement the building’s art deco-inspired aesthetic, provide acoustic absorption and accommodate discreet access to mechanical and electrical services. SAS500 acoustic baffles were selected for their refined appearance and adaptability to the project’s bespoke requirements.
Finished in bespoke Sun Gold, the system introduces a warm metallic quality to the communal interiors. Precise detailing connects the ceiling with the wider interior scheme, allowing its colour and form to make an architectural contribution without competing with the surrounding finishes.
In communal corridors and open-plan areas, acoustic absorption helps create a more comfortable environment for residents. Concealed access panels accommodate servicing of the mechanical and electrical infrastructure while preserving the clean appearance of the ceiling design.
Titan Interior Solutions installed the SAS500 system, working alongside main contractor Renaker Build Ltd. Horbury Building Services coordinated the mechanical and electrical systems with the ceiling design, bringing the architectural finish and servicing requirements together within a coherent solution.
